Introduction of Maya Ko Sansar

Maya Ko Sansar (World of Love) is a new yet experienced organization committed to protecting and promoting the rights, dignity, and well-being of transgender sex workers, female sex workers, and male sex workers in Nepal.

Established in 2022 by Sunita Lama, a transgender woman and former sex worker, Maya Ko Sansar was born out of her personal experiences and over 17 years of dedicated work in HIV/AIDS prevention. This deep connection to the community helps us understand the unique challenges, pain, and discrimination faced by those involved in sex work, especially transgender individuals.

At Maya Ko Sansar (World of Love), we strongly believe in working together with government bodies and other partners to bring lasting positive change. We advocate for the decriminalization of sex work to ensure that sex workers are not treated as criminals but as citizens with full rights. We push for stronger legal protections and better access to health care, social services, and support systems that sex workers need to live safer and healthier lives.

One of our main focuses is raising awareness about the specific struggles of transgender sex workers, helping to reduce stigma and discrimination that isolate them from society. We also educate the broader community to foster understanding, respect, and acceptance.

Our vision is simple but powerful: a world where transgender sex workers, male and female sex workers are treated with respect, dignity, and equality — where they have the same rights and protections as everyone else. We dream of a society free from violence, exploitation, and fear, where every person can live safely and openly.

To achieve this, Maya Ko Sansar provides skill-building trainings, legal awareness, mental health support, and campaigns for the protection of elderly sex workers. We also support the education and well-being of children of sex workers, helping break the cycle of poverty and discrimination.

Together with our government partners, community organizations, and supporters, we are committed to building a more just, inclusive, and compassionate Nepal — one where all people, regardless of their gender identity or profession, can live with hope and freedom.
