Building leadership within marginalized communities
At Maya Ko Sansar (World of Love), we believe that true change begins from within the community. For too long, transgender individuals, sex workers, and other marginalized voices have been spoken for — not listened to. Our mission is to build confident, skilled leaders from these communities who can stand up, speak out, and lead the change they want to see.
Why Leadership Matters
In Nepal, LGBTIQA+ individuals — especially transgender sex workers — often grow up in environments where their identities are ridiculed, erased, or criminalized. They are denied educational opportunities, excluded from formal employment, and pushed to the margins of society. As a result, many are never given the chance to discover their potential as leaders.
We are here to change that.
What We Do
We focus on transforming pain into purpose, and isolation into influence. Through our leadership development programs, we:
Conduct regular training sessions on advocacy, public speaking, organizational management, and community mobilization.
Identify promising individuals within the transgender, male, and female sex worker communities and mentor them to become peer educators and advocates.
Support our community leaders in participating in policy dialogues, public forums, and local government discussions.
Provide education on human rights, gender justice, and civic responsibilities so that our leaders can demand systemic change with confidence.
Connect emerging leaders with national and international networks, helping them grow as changemakers on larger platforms.
A New Generation of Change-Makers
Many of our members have gone from being street-based sex workers to grassroots leaders. They now lead campaigns, educate others, speak in front of policymakers, and represent the community with pride and power. Some have taken on leadership roles in other NGOs, public institutions, and government platforms.
Through leadership development, we are not just giving people skills — we are restoring their sense of self-worth. We are saying:
“You are not a problem to be solved — you are a leader to be empowered.”
At Maya Ko Sansar (World of Love), we don’t just serve our community — we build it, uplift it, and pass the microphone to those whose voices matter most.
Because leadership is not about titles. It’s about courage, lived experience, and the power to inspire others.
