In 2023, Maya Ko Sansar successfully organized a series of legal awareness and advocacy programs targeting transgender individuals and sex workers in several important areas including Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Koteshwor, Balaju, Gongabu, Chabahil, and Lazimpat. These programs were designed to educate the community about their constitutional rights and to empower them to stand up against discrimination and injustice.
Working closely with police officials, lawyers, and human rights activists, the organization facilitated interactive sessions where participants learned about the legal recognition of transgender identities, their rights as sex workers, and protections guaranteed under Nepal’s constitution. These collaborations helped bridge the gap between the community and law enforcement agencies, fostering a safer environment for marginalized groups.
The advocacy initiatives emphasized the importance of understanding legal frameworks to help community members navigate challenges such as police harassment, discrimination, and denial of services. By spreading awareness and encouraging dialogue, Maya Ko Sansar has strengthened the community’s capacity to demand justice and equal treatment under the law.
Through these sustained efforts, Maya Ko Sansar continues to pave the way for a more inclusive society where the rights of transgender and sex worker communities are recognized and respected.
