Mental Health and Well-being Programs for Transgender and Sex Worker Communities

In 2023, Maya Ko Sansar prioritized the mental well-being of one of Nepal’s most marginalized and vulnerable populations—transgender individuals and sex workers. Understanding the emotional toll caused by daily discrimination, violence, social stigma, and isolation, the organization launched a series of mental health awareness programs designed to bring hope, healing, and empowerment.

These programs specifically addressed stress management, suicide prevention, and awareness around depression and social trauma. Tailored for the transgender and sex worker communities, the sessions offered a safe and understanding environment where participants could openly discuss their struggles, share stories, and learn practical tools for emotional resilience.

With the help of mental health professionals, counselors, and peer educators, Maya Ko Sansar reached dozens of individuals who had never before accessed mental health care. For many, it was the first time they felt truly seen, heard, and valued.

These initiatives not only helped reduce feelings of isolation and despair but also fostered a sense of community and solidarity. Participants left with more than coping strategies—they left with hope, a support system, and the belief that healing is possible.

Maya Ko Sansar remains committed to expanding these services in the years to come, ensuring that mental health support is a right, not a privilege, for Nepal’s transgender and sex worker communities.
