Stakeholder Meeting: Strengthening Dialogue to Address Challenges Faced by the LGBTIQA+ Community

Maya Ko Sansar (World of Love) recently organized a powerful Stakeholder Meeting, a meaningful initiative designed to address the increasing challenges faced by the LGBTIQA+ community from society, the general public, and government structures. This important event took place a year ago and provided a platform for honest dialogue, shared experiences, and collective strategizing.

The highlight of the event was the presence of Honorable Gyanendra Shahi, Member of Parliament from Jumla, who was invited as the special guest. His participation brought national-level attention and added weight to the community’s ongoing advocacy for equality, dignity, and inclusion.

The event focused on:

  • Social discrimination and stigma faced by transgender people and sex workers

  • The lack of awareness and inclusive education among public institutions

  • The urgent need for policy reforms and legal protections

Participants—ranging from community members and civil society actors to experts and representatives from different organizations—shared real-life stories and expressed the pressing need for collaborative action to build a just and inclusive society.

During the program, MP Gyanendra Shahi gave a moving and supportive speech, stating:

“Everyone in society deserves equal rights and respect. I will take your community’s concerns to Parliament and do everything in my capacity to ensure your rights are legally protected.”

His words provided great encouragement to the attendees and emphasized the importance of government commitment toward resolving the legal and social challenges LGBTIQA+ individuals face. He also stressed the need for the government to develop targeted plans to uplift marginalized gender and sexual minorities.

The program saw active engagement from Sunita Lama, founder and president of Maya Ko Sansar, along with legal experts, organizational stakeholders, and many community members who shared their lived realities. The event concluded with a strong collective commitment from all participants to continue advancing social inclusion, awareness, and legal reform.

This stakeholder meeting served as a milestone in building bridges between the community, the state, and society, offering hope and direction for future advocacy. With committed allies like MP Gyanendra Shahi, the path toward justice and equality becomes more promising. Maya Ko Sansar is committed to continuing such dialogues and creating stronger platforms for community empowerment.
